designed while employed at Workbench
East Oakland Apartments
Oakland, CA
Developed in close collaboration with the Workbench development team, this project explores multiple housing strategies—ranging from a 35-unit mass timber scheme to an 83-unit modular proposal—to maximize density and respond to the evolving needs of an Oakland neighborhood.
Across iterations, the design prioritizes efficient construction methods that reduce cost and accelerate delivery, while maintaining a strong architectural identity. The current mass timber approach introduces warmth and natural materiality—bringing typically high-end design features into a more accessible housing model.
Positioned as a catalyst for future growth, the project aims to set a new standard for thoughtful, attainable urban housing.
