Union Pacific - Asher Adams Hotel
Salt Lake City, UT
This 225-key, 216,000 SF boutique hotel was conceived as an addition to Salt Lake City’s historic Union Pacific Station, navigating complex site constraints within the existing Gateway Mall.
A curved building form responds to adjacent retail while opening the double-loaded corridor to daylight and views, allowing the new structure to pull away from the historic station. The design balances contrast and continuity—drawing from the station’s architectural language without mimicking it—creating a quiet backdrop to the east and a more articulated, faceted expression to the west.
A restrained palette of brick, stone, wood, and patinated metal introduces warmth and texture, while the deep, faceted facade mitigates solar gain and produces a dynamic play of light and shadow throughout the day.
